Corporate Giving

Someone's sitting in the shade today because
someone planted a tree a long time ago."

- Warren Buffett

Pan-American Life remains committed to its longstanding tradition of social responsibility and philanthropy, supporting programs, events and organizations in our communities, especially when they need it most.

The effects of the economic downturn have led to an increase in the demands on charitable and non-profit organizations as many individuals face unemployment, salary cuts and disappearing savings. At the same time, corporate giving has dramatically decreased from previous years as corporations adjust their budgets to fit the needs of these economic times. Despite the downward trend in corporate giving, Pan-American Life’s overall charitable donations increased by 15 percent in 2009. Our philanthropic commitment is aligned with our corporate strategy and demonstrates our responsibility to the civic and social aspect of the communities in which we live and work. We recognize with deep gratitude the generous employees and producers who invested time and personal commitment to many of our philanthropic efforts in 2009.

ARTS

  • Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra

In 2010, Pan-American Life Insurance Group continued its commitment as title sponsor for “Fiesta Sinfónica,” the third in a series of five Spotlight Concerts by the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO) that featured Hispanic artists.

In 2007, Pan-American Life signed a five-year agreement to be the LPO’s title sponsor. The pledge reflects our commitment to the city of New Orleans and the international community.

COMMUNITY

  • United Way

In 2009, we contributed more than $200,000 to United Way, a sum that combines the contributions of many of our employees as well as Pan-American Life’s corporate contribution. We are proud to say that this year’s contribution represents an increase of nearly 10 percent over 2008, thus helping United Way with improving lives in our region.

HISPANIC - LATIN AMERICA

  • New Orleans Hispanic Heritage Foundation

Pan-American Life increasingly contributes to the work of the New Orleans Hispanic Heritage Foundation (NOHHF) by sponsoring the annual fundraising gala Azúcar Ball and a number of scholarships to high school students of Hispanic descent in New Orleans.

Directing Our Corporate Giving

In an effort to ensure that our philanthropic efforts are aligned with our corporate strategy we have identified four categories to help us direct our corporate giving:

    • Arts: Continued sponsorship with the LPO "Fiesta Sinfónica"
    • Community Impact: such as the United Way
    • Hispanic - Latin America: to include local New Orleans Hispanic events that reinforce our commitment to the Arts or Education
    • Public Safety: including events such as Crime Stoppers, Inc and the New Orleans Police and Justice Foundation
